"Futurama," Jinx
Until now, I hadn’t heard of him — and if you haven’t either, I strongly suggest you check him out.
The Massachusetts transplant comes out of the gates swinging on his new record, Futurama, a fast and furious smattering of tongue-twisting declarations, R&B slow-downs and Timberlake-esque falsetto-centered dance tracks. Jinx is a smart ass, a lover, a fighter, a class clown and a moralist, preaching and playing through 13 delicious tracks. On “3089” he’s clear-cut, bold and brazen — it’s a public declaration of who he is and how rad he is. (He literally says, “My name is Jinx and I am better than you. I’m way sexier and more clever too.”) He slows things down around a breathy chorus on “Get Away” before ramping things up again on the dance floor-ready “Panic at the Disco.” Jinx is all over the place — but that’s a good thing. He’s just showing he can bring it.
Jinx plays at the Blue Spark on Thursday, July 23, at 8 pm. Price TBA. 21+. Call 838-5787.
